Several classes of students from Benedictine College (BC) have visited the Mount in the 2023-2024 school year.
- Biology students toured the Mount grounds on September 9, 2023, and learned about our beehives, microgreen-growing project, gardens, and ecological practices (for example, our use of solar panels and rain barrels, composting efforts, and choice of native plants to provide habitats for diverse insect species).
- One day in November, Sister Susan Barber’s Benedictine Experience class joined the sisters for Evening Prayer in the Choir Chapel. They added the names of their deceased loved ones to the community’s Book of the Names of the Dead; the persons listed in the book are included in the community’s prayer throughout November.
- Eleven students from the School of Nursing came to Dooley Center for a 6-week clinical rotation in the fall. The sisters who live in Dooley Center enjoyed partnering with the students in this educational experience.
- On February 20, 2024, Dr. Mariele Courtois and the students in her Spirituality in Health Care class visited Dooley Center. They spoke with Sister Barbara Conroy, director of pastoral care, and several residents about the Benedictine approach to spiritual care for elders. Topics of discussion included an emphasis on quality of life, attitudes about dying, and the teaching of St. Benedict to “keep death daily before you” as a spiritual practice.
